The blushing brides of summer are starting to make their way down the aisle, and odds are you’ll be at one or two weddings (at least!) before the summer’s over. But as always, the question is: what do I wear? Wares the More and Bloomingdale’s have the perfect dresses for you this summer, wherever and whenever the wedding!
For a breezy, outdoor wedding, it doesn’t get better than this dress. It offers a fun pop of color and admirable detailing, without being too distracting. (As everyone knows, distracting attention from the bride is about the WORST thing you can do with your outfit – no white dresses, ever!)
The shift style looks elegant on it’s own, but you could add a small belt to create more of an hourglass figure.
Laundry by Shelli Segal Dress
This is a dress to be worn with confidence, a la Joan Holloway from Mad Men. The elegant square neckline makes it perfect for “cocktail attire” weddings. Pair it with a subtle gold bracelet or some small earrings for maximum effect. The versatility is another important factor in choosing your dress – luckily, this would be perfect for a special date night out.
The hardest wedding to dress for can be a “black-tie” one. You want to look appropriate, not like a teenager dressing up for the high school prom. This chic, sophisticated dress certainly fits the bill. With the high, criss-crossing neckline and high-low hem, you’ll look the part of the mature, modern woman.
Kay Unger Dress – Sleeveless Watercolor Print A-Line
The watercolor print is gaining popularity in formal wear, and I’m particularly enthralled by this dress. It’s perfect for any type of wedding, and sets you apart without being distracting. Bonus points if you’re wearing this to the wedding of your friend who went to art school – she’ll think it’s awesome!
I’d be remiss if I didn’t show you at least one 1920’s inspired dress! I am a lover of all things vintage (or vintage-inspired, as the case may be). The intricate beading on this dress is delightful, and the fun, playful cut will get you spinning around the dance floor faster than you can say “Gatsby.”
A few more wedding dress tips: read the invitation carefully to figure out how you should dress, and think about the bride and groom. If they’re from conservative families and holding a church wedding, you’ll clearly want to dress slightly more conservative yourself. Conversely, if they’re a pair of hip-to-the-minute creative types, you don’t want to be the dowdy or overdressed friend.
Also, if possible, try to find out what color the bridal party is wearing. You won’t want to wear the same color lest people think you’re a part of the wedding.
But above all else: have fun! You’re there to celebrate the union of two happy people, so don’t spend too much time fretting. Congrats to all the lucky people getting married, and to all of the friends and family!
Best Summer Reads from Barnes and Noble
Whether you like to swoon over romance novels or bury your nose in a fast-paced thriller, Wares the More® and Barnes and Noble have the top 10 books of the summer you won’t be able to put down.
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins – This thriller has drawn comparisons to Gone Girl, both in pace and narration. The tale of Rachel, an alcoholic trying to get her life back on track, and the couple she sees through the train window every day on her commute is riveting, especially once Rachel sees something shocking, and goes to the police for help.
Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari – The comedian and actor writes about dating in today’s society, and how technology is affecting our relationships for better and for worse. It’s humorous, but also brings a great deal of insight and sociological perspective to the dating game, thanks to Ansari’s research work with sociologist Klinenberg.
Killing Monica by Candace Bushnell – This wry novel follows a writer whose novels have spawned several blockbuster films (Sound familiar? It’s probably because Candace Bushnell wrote Sex and the City). As her marriage suffers and publishers continue to demand more from her, she realizes that she may have found the opportunity to reinvent herself and escape.
Paper Towns by John Green – The big screen adaptation is headed to theatres soon, but before you go admire Cara Delevinge’s eyebrows, pick up the book and get acquainted with the story of Margo Roth Spiegelman, the quirky, passionate girl of Quentin Jacobsen’s dreams. After an exciting night of revenge escapades, Margo disappears and Quentin is left to figure out why.
Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee – Already being hailed as a historic literary event, the recently discovered Harper Lee novel is one everyone will be reading this summer. It returns to the setting and characters of To Kill A Mockingbird, as Scout revisits her town 20 years later and struggles with the people and places that shaped her personally.
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt – The Pulitzer-winning novel is 734 pages, but don’t let that stop you. The vivid story of Theo Decker, a 13-year-old who survives an accident that kills his mother and is sent to live with the family of a wealthy friend is dripping with richly crafted detail. Especially recommended for art lovers everywhere.
Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay – Gay tackles issues like race, gender, politics, feminism, and pop culture in a compelling manner that cuts right to the heart of the issue, while remaining (at times) lighthearted. It’s a great read if you’re looking for perspective on many of the social issues facing us today, or if you just like a little bit of comedy with your current events.
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty – Hailed as “so suburban noir [it] would make David Lynch clap with glee,” this novel showcases suburban life and the secrets that accompany it, through the eyes of three women in the town. Weaving between fun chick-lit and darker novels, this is a gripping book that will have you staying up all night to finish it.
The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan – An interesting take on the royal-commoner romance, though it’s ostensibly not actually about Will and Kate (though perhaps inspired by?) Rebecca is an American student at Oxford who falls for the prince living down the hall. As their relationship becomes serious, she is thrust into a complicated and difficult world.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald – The beauty of re-reading books that were assigned in high school or college is that you can revisit them and enjoy them without scrambling to assign meaning to every detail. The Great Gatsby is one that holds up over time, and is great to revisit over and over again later in life.

I’ve been a coffee drinker since high school, when I pretended to enjoy a cup of black coffee at a media event, in order to convince the other reporters that I was a “real” journalist. Since then, my appreciation has only grown, and I consider coffee a beloved hobby of mine. I love finding new cafes, sampling new types of coffee, and trying different pairings. The one I’m hooked on now, thanks to my mom, is coffee and chocolate.
I’ve tried a few different approaches, and the toughest part is not making the combo sickly-sweet. That’s why I’m recently partial to cold-brew coffee, which is smoother and less bitter than traditionally brewed coffee, but isn’t too sugary. Along that same line of thought, dark chocolate makes a nice complement to cold-brew (over ice – it’s the best way to enjoy it).
The distinctive sweetness of the brown sugar, coated with chocolate rice and covered in luxurious-tasting dark chocolate is absolutely enticing. My self-control is at its weakest when this is nearby.
But if you’re like my family, you might want something with a little more variety. Every year, we each get an assorted Sees box from my grandmother, and the feast truly begins.
The fun part about this (other than the obvious – it’s chocolate!) is that you can play around with different pairings, and then custom-order your own box of favorites from Sees. Not to mention, they really do make great gifts for any occasion.
Forget jewelry, this is what I really want! Sees Candy, Gourmet Gift Baskets and Wares the More are all about what you really want. What coffee and chocolate pairing are you partial to?
It’s graduation season! As your sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends head off into the great unknown (also known as the real world), give them something special. These pieces from The Black Bow are elegant, well-made and long lasting. They’re perfect for your grad to wear at job interviews and networking events, as well as on dates or fun nights out.
Include a note with this quote from Tom Brokaw: “You are educated. Your certification is in your degree. You may think of it as the ticket to the good life. Let me ask you to think of an alternative. Think of it as your ticket to change the world.”

Sometimes the trudge of daily life gets to you. Everything seems humdrum, boring, like you’re just going through the motions. What are you to do? One of the best ways to reinvigorate yourself and get back in the groove is a short, spontaneous getaway to somewhere new. Maybe you’ve always wanted to visit Punta Cana, or maybe the kids have been begging for a trip to Disneyland. Maybe you want to cut loose in Vegas for a night, or maybe you want to explore the quiet serenity of the mountains. Wherever your heart is calling you, Wares the More ® and LastMinuteTravel can help you plan your trip, making it stress-free every step of the way.
If you aren’t sure where to go, don’t worry. Last Minute Travel has personnel available to chat with and determine the best choice for you based on your time, budget, and preferences. And if you have a destination in mind, you can figure out your flights, hotels, activities, transportation and more, all in one site. No more are the days of jumping from site to site, trying to find the best deals – LMT has them all assembled in one place.

They also go above and beyond in their offerings. Unlike other travel sites, they take into account the different kinds of traveling you’ll be doing. For example, they have a great section for vacation homes – perfect for larger groups, or people who just prefer homes over hotels. Many of them are priced very competitively, and offer amenities (like kitchens and outdoor BBQs) that aren’t always available in a traditional hotel.
For activities, they offer something for everyone. There are deals on city passes, as well as kid-friendly activities like amusement parks. If mom and dad want to have a getaway filled with grown-up activities like fine dining, tickets to the latest show, and a round of golf, LMT offers that as well.
But the best part is the deals. They feature limited-time, last minute offers that can save you up to 70 percent off! It’s perfect for the truly spontaneous getaway, you can book it on your way to the airport, in fact, and still save more money than if you’d bought ahead with a different travel site.

Father’s Day may be just around the corner, but why not celebrate the growing family too? (Click the photo to view the product on the site).
Give her a good night’s rest with the Snoogle Total Body Pillow. It’s multi-positional so she can (finally!) find a comfortable sleeping position, and it supports both the back and growing belly. It’s so comfortable, she may even want to use it after baby comes.
She’ll be the most stylish mom around with the Buffalo Carry-All. Just because she’s a mom doesn’t mean she has to carry a pastel diaper bag with baby animals on it, and with this bag, she won’t have to. Equipped with plenty of compartments for everything she will need, this is the perfect bag for mom and her baby to travel around town.
Say hello to the little one with the soft, cuddly Chenille Blanket. It’s soothing, warm, and sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face. We wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes baby’s favorite blankie as he or she grows up. And mom will love that it’s easy to wash!
Let mama indulge! This stretch mark butter gets rave reviews on Destination Maternity, and it’s simple to see why. The nourishing, soothing butter hydrates skin and helps to treat and prevent stretch marks. The calming lavender vanilla smell makes it a can’t-miss purchase. One reviewer says she loves it so much, she gets two containers at a time!
Give her some extra comfort with these slippers from Ugg Australia. Her feet are under a lot of stress right now, so make sure they’re comfy-cozy with these great slippers. The genuine sheepskin will make her feel so much better, and everyone knows that warm feet are happy feet! They’ll also be great for getting up for 2 a.m. feedings over the next few months.
Destination Maternity and Wares the More ® are happy to celebrate all the moms and growing families. What products did you find helpful during your pregnancy?
If you find yourself on the golden coast this summer, you certainly aren’t short on options for where to go. I’ve lived in both Northern California and Southern California, and visited a lot of places in between. Every place boasts its own unique qualities, and I’m dying to continue exploring my state. From the idyllic beaches of San Diego up to the vineyards of Sonoma, here are my five top picks for California destinations.
San Diego – There’s a reason it’s “America’s Finest City.” Home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, San Diego also offers beautiful hikes, an active nightlife (especially in Pacific Beach), and all the shopping you could desire. Check out La Jolla for higher-end shopping and dining, or head to the Gaslamp District for a fun night out on the town. It’s also a great vacation destination for families, with lots of kid-friendly activities like Seaworld and Legoland. If you’re only here for a day, I recommend Torrey Pines. There are hikes for everyone from novices to experts, with breathtaking ocean views, as well as a lovely beach to relax on afterwards.
Santa Barbara – When people think of California, with bright blue water and lush scenery, they’re thinking of Santa Barbara. You’ll want to spend most of your time outdoors here, surfing, sailing, or hiking through the unique stone formations up in the mountains. Or you can explore the Spanish architecture in the downtown area, before grabbing some seafood and wine in a region that excels at both.
San Francisco – Growing up an hour away, I spent a lot of time in San Francisco. You might even say I left my heart there, and with good reason. The vibrant, bustling city manages to pack some of the world’s best art and culture, scenery, innovation, shopping, and novelty into a mere 7 by 7 miles. If you find yourself on the western side, be sure to stroll through Golden Gate Park. It’s right next to the hippieish Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, which my vintage-fashion-loving self can’t get enough of. On the other side of things, there’s the always-happening Mission District, with the iconic Embarcadero waterfront to the north. Make sure to hop on one of the ferries to Alcatraz.
Sonoma – Alright, I’ll admit I’m a little biased here, having grown up in Sonoma. But every time I return, I really am blown away by the beauty of it: the rolling hills of lush, green vineyards, or the fall trees starting to turn vibrantly red and orange. Jack London wrote that it was the Valley of the Moon, and it’s still true today. You can check out the park named after him, a great choice for literature geeks and outdoorsmen alike, or you can tour one of the many, many wineries in the area. Sebastiani Winery is conveniently located near the downtown area, where you’ll have to stop in for a bite at Mary’s Pizza Shack.
South Lake Tahoe – Whether you get here in time for snow skiing, or fun on the water, South Lake Tahoe never disappoints. The resorts at Heavenly and Kirkwood are not to be missed, but if gambling’s more your thing, then be sure to check out Harrah’s Casino. A cruise around Emerald Bay is a perfect romantic activity to do with your loved one, but the kids would enjoy it too. The dense greenery makes for a picture-perfect setting, so get out there and get snapping. (But make sure to bring your warm socks!)
